Transfer Credits
Up to six credit hours of acceptable courses in which graduate
credit and a grade of A or B was earned may be transferred from
another academic institution. The courses must fit logically into
the Plan of Study and must be approved by the course/research
adviser, the other members of the committee, the graduate adviser,
and the Graduate School. The courses must not have counted for
credit toward a previous degree and must have been taken while the
student was enrolled as a regular graduate student, or were reserved
for future graduate study. Transfer of credit requires completion of
a "Do-All Form" available in the graduate secretary's office.
If possible, the student should consult with his or her KU
course/research adviser and the CEAE graduate adviser before taking
a course from another university. This is especially important if
the student intends to request transfer credit, so that possible
problems can be identified beforehand. Transfer courses include
those taught by Kansas State University (e.g., at the Capitol
Complex) and the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
Reducing the Degree Requirement
In rare instances, outstanding graduate students who have taken
courses that do not meet the requirements for transfer credit, or
who have taken more than six hours of courses elsewhere, may be
granted permission to complete a reduced number of credit-hours for
their graduate degree, e.g., to receive a master of science degree
with fewer than 30 hours of graduate credit.
