Financial Aid
Many of our full-time graduate students receive financial support
from research assistantships, teaching assistantships, fellowships
and scholarships. There is no separate application for financial
aid. When we review your application for admission, we will also
consider you for financial aid.
Graduate research and teaching assistantships are awarded by the
professors in charge of the research projects and courses. Some
assistantships are awarded to incoming students; others are awarded
to continuing students who have excelled in their studies. Graduate
research and teaching assistants employed 40 percent time or more
receive payment of tuition and most fees in addition to a salary.
Many graduate research assistants and teaching assistants also
receive scholarships.
The CEAE Department, the School of Engineering and the Graduate
School award a variety of scholarships and fellowships to new
graduate students. Outstanding applicants may be nominated for a Self Graduate Fellowship.
This four-year fellowship provides a $23,000 annual stipend, full
tuition and fees, and a unique professional development program.
The School of Engineering awards Strobel
and Chaffee Scholarships to new graduate students, and the
Graduate School offers several different
scholarships for new students. The Self Graduate Fellowships
and the School of Engineering and Graduate School scholarships are
generally awarded to students who will begin full-time graduate
study in the fall semester. The deadlines for nominations are:
- Jan. 28 for the Self Graduate Fellowship,
- Feb. 7 for the School of Engineering scholarships,
- Feb. 16 for the Graduate School scholarships.
Applicants who wish to be considered for these should awards submit
all application materials well in advance of the deadlines.
Admitted and current students are also encouraged to apply for other
support, such as fellowships and grants from governmental,
corporate, and private organizations and professional societies, as
well as from KU. A list of some support
agencies is under development.
