Dr. Amy Hansen Selected for NSF CAREER Award

Dr. Amy Hansen has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER Award! The NSF CAREER Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding potential in both research and education.

Dr. Hansen's proposal is titled "CAREER: Nitrogen Exchange and Removal in Riparian Wetlands – the Role of Vegetation."

Dr. Hansen’s proposed research will advance water resources engineering and environmental engineering by expanding knowledge of mass transport and biogeochemical process rates by building on recent advancements in environmental fluid dynamics of vegetated canopies. Her proposed outreach program with Baker Wetlands will provide students opportunities to participate in service while using their foundation in wetland science education. Dr. Hansen’s efforts to increase student diversity through recruitment, mentorship and supporting students within KU’s Emerging Scholars Program will directly contribute toward our institution-wide DEIB goals.
