Dr. Admin Husic Selected for NSF CAREER Award

Dr. Admin Husic has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER Award! The NSF CAREER Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding potential in both research and education.

Dr. Husic's proposal is titled "CAREER: Dynamic connectivity: a research and educational frontier for sustainable environmental management under climate and land use uncertainty."

The research and education activities proposed by Dr. Husic will extend our strengths in water resources and environmental engineering to the emerging fields of coupled hydrologic connectivity and contaminant transport. Dr. Husic envisions a new way of using deep learning to link dynamic connectivity modeling with high-frequency sensing approaches to bridge our understanding of contaminant sources and sinks. He proposes a novel formulation of dynamic connectivity to the hydrological sciences, which can be utilized to solve long-standing problems in hydrology and improve management outcomes. Dr. Husic will form partnerships with Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) to prepare students from historically underrepresented backgrounds for college through a hands-on environmental data module, and with the SELF Program to train the next generation of entrepreneurial stakeholders in big-data-informed environmental stewardship.
